Applicants should possess (1) a Bachelor’s degree and a recognized professional qualification in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) ideally with at least 1 year’s post-qualification experience at a professional level in academic libraries (a higher degree in a second subject relevant to the position is preferable); (2) working knowledge of an integrated library system (e.g. III, Alma) and associated tools including OCLC Connexion, RDA toolkit and Cataloger’s Desktop programs; (3) familiarity with current standards for bibliographic and authority data (e.g., MARC, AACR2, RDA, LCSH), classification systems (e.g. DDC, LCC, Moys); (4) knowledge of metadata schemas and standards (such as Dublin Core, MODS, EAD, VRA, etc.), and controlled vocabularies (such as LCSH, LCNAF, and AAT); (5) experience with batch processing tools (such as MarcEdit, OpenRefine, etc.); (6) excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese; (7) supervisory experience of staff engaged in using MARC21 for cataloguing all types of materials in both Western language and CJK; (8) detail-oriented aptitude with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines; (9) good analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively with students and staff of the University, vendors and all levels of Library staff.
Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the appointee will create, enhance, and maintain original and complex bibliographic and authority records for a wide range of library materials in various formats. He/She will help to establish metadata policies and procedures and support metadata initiatives; plan, direct, and review work of cataloging assistants, student helpers, interns, and/or other contributors to special projects. The appointee will work closely with the Acquisitions Librarian and maintain close relationship with Digital Scholarship Librarian and Systems Librarian. The appointee is encouraged to pursue further development and to make contributions to the profession.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
