To commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.
Applicants should possess (1) a Bachelor’s degree and a recognized professional qualification in library and information science (e.g. M.L.S. or equivalent) ideally with at least 5 years’ post-qualification working experience at a professional level in academic libraries (a higher degree in a second subject relevant to the position is preferable); (2) profound knowledge of acquisition issues, trends, workflows, and best practices in an academic library and experience in budget analysis; (3) demonstrated knowledge of electronic resources licensing and the legal framework in which it takes place (as an advantage); (4) excellent spoken and written communication skills in both English and Chinese (essential); and (5) good analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal skills, with flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively with students and staff of the University, vendors and all levels of Library staff. They should also be detail-oriented with the ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. Applicants with less professional experience in library and information science may be considered for appointment at the rank of Assistant Librarian II.
Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the appointee will oversee the strategies, processes and workflow of acquisition and payment for content in all formats for the library while ensuring that resources are obtained in a timely, fiscally responsible and effective manner. He/She will work closely with the Cataloging & Metadata Librarian and maintain close relationship with subject Librarians and Systems Librarian. The appointee is encouraged to pursue further development and to make contributions to the profession.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
