The Environment:

Nottingham is ideally situated in the middle of England and has excellent transport links, being served by a major train station and with multiple airports close by. It has a large and diverse student population and a vibrant social scene, with plenty of fine drinking and eating establishments to suit every taste. The East Midlands is one of the most affordable areas to live in the UK and Nottingham University is situated on a beautiful, leafy campus with easy access to the city.
The Visual Neuroscience Group is one of the largest nuclei of vision scientists in the UK, with expertise in a variety of areas, and an established track record of bringing through successful PhD students.

The Details:

The studentship will provide a stipend to cover living costs (approximately £17,668) and Home University fees (~ £4,496) for the project duration (36 months). As the studentship will not cover international fees, non-UK students should contact Dr Chris Scholes separately before applying.

This starting date is from 1st October 2023.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) or a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Psychology, Neuroscience, Optometry, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related discipline.

Essential: The successful candidate will be highly motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills and should have some experience with data analysis, quantitative methods, or programming.

Desirable: Experience collecting and/or processing eye-tracking/psychophysical data; experience with Matlab or Python.
Informal enquiries can be directed to Chris Scholes (Chris.Scholes@nottingham.ac.uk).
