Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Cardiovascular Division of the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Reader with an interest in how ion channel transcriptional dysregulation contributes to arrhythmias. The level of appointment will depend on experience. You will be based in the Cardiac Function Section within the NHLI. [https://www.imperial.ac.uk/nhli/research/research-sections/].
You will be expected to develop a research programme within NHLI and secure grant funding whilst contributing to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In addition, you will be expected to have experience in research in the regulation of function of cardiac ion channels particularly those associated with pacemaking and the conduction system. An interest in circadian clock regulation of ion channels and how aging affects ion channel function would be advantageous. You will also need to show that you have a track record of securing research grants and evidence of high-quality publications.
The NHLI at Imperial College is internationally renowned for its research in cardiac electrophysiology spanning from cellular investigations (subcellular domains, ion channel function and cellular calcium dynamics), through to intact tissue and whole heart studies (myocardial slices and explanted pig and human donor hearts). In parallel there is a vibrant clinical research programme that includes cardiac atrial MR imaging and a growing interest in applying AI to improve the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias and the delivery of several first-in-human invasive studies.
