The School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in data management systems. The successful candidate will contribute to an EPSRC funded project on developing scalable systems for nested data management. The project scope includes both foundational aspects,such as studying transformations of queries over nested data, and practical aspects, such as implementing novel techniques for processing nested data at scale.

The Opportunity:

The post holder will be working with Dr Milos Nikolic from the University of Edinburgh and collaborating with Prof Michael Benedikt from the University of Oxford.

This post is part of the EPSRC grant “QUINTON – Querying and Integrating Over Nested Data” whose goal is to build new foundations for nested data, focusing on both solving core foundational problems of querying nested data and building scalable systems for querying and integrating nested data. Knowledge, skills and experience

Essential knowledge, skills and experience are:

  • A PhD degree (or near completion) in Computer Science or closely related fields.
  • Prior research experience within data management, in particular database systems, query languages, and query optimisation.
  • Experience with large-scale processing frameworks, such as Apache Spark and Apache Flink.
  • Publications in leading international venues in database systems, such as PVLDB, SIGMOD, ICDE, EDBT.
  • Evidence of extensive software design and implementation.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and work in a team.
