Job description

The Department of Engineering at King’s College London has seen significant investment and growth since its relaunch in 2019. After a c.£50m investment, the department now sits at the centre of the Strand Campus in central London, housed in the recently completed 3000m²   Quad redevelopment, boasting cutting-edge research facilities, new learning and teaching facilities, including a MakerSpace for students. The department has embarked on a period of growth in line with university ambitions to create a culture of diversity and inclusivity.

We are now seeking a Professor of Robotics to join the department, to continue to build research excellence in this area, contribute to innovative education, and provide mentorship to the excellent emerging academics in this area. We are particularly interested in individuals with a research interest in kinematics and mechanisms, origami and bioinspired robotics and interactive robotics to support and complement our strong robotics research portfolio in computer vision, IoT, sensors, control, soft robotics, and human-robot interaction and collaboration.

King’s is proud of its culture of cross faculty working, and expects the postholder to continue to build collaborations across King’s, broadening the footprint of the   Centre for Robotics Research (CORE) with colleagues in adjacent departments such as informatics and mathematics, as well as across the whole university.

This is an exciting time to join us and contribute to our vision to establish an agile and future facing department with an international reputation, which brings together the engineering disciplines and reaches out to other disciplines to deliver research and innovation that delivers real impact and benefits for people, society, industry, and the planet.

As a senior academic in the department, the postholder will be expected to deliver outstanding education and research, and support the ongoing development of the departmental strategy. At its core, the ambition is to educate the engineers of the future to take a creative approach to problem solving, to investigate and inquire as well as to innovate and create.
