About us
The UCL Institute of Finance and Technology (IFT) is the new UCL Institute dedicated to finance. The IFT is committed to becoming a hub for the highest level of excellence in research, and for its creative and innovative approach to the education of financial students, and will provide leadership and training for future financial and business leaders by enabling close collaboration between cutting-edge applied research, financial innovation, industry and government. Innovative forms of finance are being developed and tested due to new technologies coming into operation and in response to future expectations. The IFT is built around a vision of finance at the service of major societal challenges. New financial models, embedding technical, environmental and social aspects within financial mechanisms, have been developed within the Institute by experts in their fields who pass on this new understanding to combine applied research, innovative finance, and entrepreneurial creativity in a dynamic learning environment.
About the studentship
PhD candidate at Institute with teaching support responsibilities. Through your research, you will develop skills in experimental work in finance and digital finance, software development, data analysis and effective communication. Also responsible for supporting Prof Francesca Medda and the Industrial Professors and Lecturers of the new MSc Responsible Finance and Alternative Assets, beginning September 2023. Tuition Fees plus an annual tax-free stipend of £20,500 per year.
About you
Relevant experience in quantitative methods is highly recommended but not essential as well as work/academic familiarity with matters related to Responsible Finance and Alternative Assets. This includes (but is not limited to) experience as a researcher, analyst, risk or portfolio manager, trader or business entrepreneur. Applicants must hold or expect to obtain a 1st class Masters degree in finance, economics, statistics, maths/physics or computer science.
