Lecturer in Computer Science and/or Data Science

Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance

The Academic Center at the Bahrain Institute of Banking & Finance is seeking Lecturers in the following fields:

  • Computer Science
  • Data Science

Main duties will involve delivering modules in the above subjects for undergraduate students. Candidates should be educated to doctoral degree standard in a relevant subject (or equivalent).

The BIBF has been offering a range of undergraduate programmes delivered in Bahrain, giving local students access to international education. The validated programmes offered in Bahrain include: BSc Accounting & Finance, BSc Banking & Finance, and Data Science.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

TEACHING

  • Teach and manage learning activities on courses provided by BIBF & associated subjects.
  • Provide support and recommendations on innovative teaching/training techniques that create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst participants.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of student progress, achievement and attendance and provide feedback to students and Training Managers as required.

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT

  • Assist the planning and implementation of a high quality curriculum; manage and monitor the quality and relevance of course content and methods of delivery.
  • Review syllabus, textbooks, course materials, manuals, lecture notes, handouts, visual and other aids; document and record the course contents in alignment with BIBF’s policies and procedures.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT

  • Deliver the allocated programs (standard, professional, customized and/or academic) courses.
  • Follow up with students for any course submissions, case study analysis, assessment reports, etc. assigned to them as a part of the course/program requirement; verify and assess/grade all submissions (as required)
  • Carry out the day-to-day management of the programs, liaise and maintain regular contact with partner organizations (as required)

INTERNAL VERIFICATION

  • Act as an Assessor or internal moderator, if appropriate; else identify assessors as required for the course.
  • Participate in invigilation of exams as required.

RESEARCH/PUBLICATION

  • Support the Centre’s research initiatives by supporting the Senior Lecturer and/or Principal Lecturer in research programs and publications in key local and international journals (as required)

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide student guidance and counseling; assist students in their career shaping and development (as required)
  • Communicate effectively with students and colleagues, using face-to-face, telephone, written and electronic communication modes as appropriate
  • Maintain an awareness and observation of fire and health and safety regulations and other BIBF rules and regulations
  • Undertake any other responsibilities in the department, as directed by the Head of Centre

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATION

  • PhD

In a relevant subject

(Computer Science and/ or Data Science or equivalent) is required.

Minimum Experience (Depending on the specialization of teaching)

  • Experience of teaching undergraduate students.
  • Experience in Assessment of student work.
  • Experience and knowledge of Learning and Teaching policies and processes within the field of Higher/Further education
  • Experience of curriculum development.
  • Demonstrable academic, teaching, and administrative experiences in the field of Higher/Further education Skills.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Influencing and leadership skills.
  • Planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to teach and to supervise students of various caliber.
  • Strong English and/or Arabic language skills (written and spoken).

  • Proven record of ability to conduct high quality research which is reflected in the authorship of high quality publications, or other research outputs

Remuneration

Location: Bahrain

Remuneration: Basic £4,000/month Housing: £1,000/month

Contract Type: Fixed Term
