An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our talented team of software developers, helping to create and enhance a variety of applications, working at the heart of one of the world’s leading universities.

This role is an entry-level position and will suit a graduate or someone beginning or switching to a software development career. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to learn and collaborate with many experienced individuals across the organisation.

The offered post is full time, but if required we can provide flexible working patterns and/or reduced or part-time hours to support your childcare or other responsibilities.

Your skills and attributes for success:

We’re looking for someone with knowledge of web application development using server-side technologies. In this entry-level position you will be supported to learn and expand your skillset in all areas. Applicants should have at least an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, or an equivalent level of demonstrable experience. It would be helpful to have skills and knowledge in the following (in rough priority order):

  • Python
  • Django (or similar framework)
  • Systems analysis and applications design
  • REST APIs
  • Software testing (e.g.: unit tests, TDD)

Knowledge and interest in any of the following is not required but would be a bonus:

  • SQL (and/or Oracle and PL/SQL)
  • Software build pipeline, CI/CD
  • Front-end JavaScript frameworks (Vue.js or React)
  • Linux, using command line interface and tools
  • Containers and Kubernetes

This job requires analytical and problem-solving skills.

You should have the ability to quickly adapt and learn new technologies and practices and apply them effectively in a variety of contexts.

You will need to be able to work as part of a team: collaborating with colleagues, and escalating issues to get support when needed.
