The Psychoanalysis Unit is committed to the study and critical examination of psychoanalysis within the university, including both its theoretical aspects and its cultural implications. This role supports the research and communications activities of the Psychoanalysis Unit and related institutions and provide administrative support for specific projects. The post is based in the Psychoanalysis Unit and is a one-year maternity cover. For the research element of the role you will need to prepare and submit costings for research grant applications, undertake systematic literature searching, using platforms like Ovid to search databases, review abstracts to identify publications relevant to grant applications, books and journal papers. You will also contribute to the development of grant applications, journal papers and book chapters, including production of drafts and preparation of bibliographies using EndNote software. Communications work will include working with the Psychoanalysis Unit team to develop a communications strategy for the Unit, leading on the development and maintenance of the web presence of the Unit and related institutions and the development of social media policy for the Unit. You will be required to develop and maintain a network of appropriate media contacts and produce and manage multimedia content as required for communications initiatives. The post-holder will provide communications support for Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing (PEP), a full-text database of all major psychoanalytic literature, including contributing to editing PEP’s support website as needed, and managing PEP’s twitter account. You will also coordinate the ongoing video project in collaboration with PEP to interview the 100 most-cited living psychoanalysts about their key papers. Other tasks include supporting the development and maintenance of an accessible mental health web resource for young people (in partnership with the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families) providing information about treatments for different mental health problems. You will also be required to create PowerPoint presentations conveying research findings and theoretical ideas. Administrative tasks will involve assistance with project management and providing administrative support for Psychoanalytic Electronic Publishing. This involves a range of operations tasks across the board, including organising weekly payments and staff payroll, royalty payments, and invoicing and preparing monthly reports for PEP’s accountant. There will also be general tasks, and other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or Head of Department/Division.
