The Department of Humanities is looking to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on an Arts and Humanities Research Council/German Research Foundation-funded project entitled “Post-Postmodern Fictions of the Digital: Narrative, Technology, and Cognition in the Twenty-First Century” (AHRC Ref: AH/X001601/1). The project aims to investigate the prevalence, narratological distinctiveness, and reader reception of what we define as Post-Postmodernist Fictions of the Digital (PPFDs): contemporary print fictions that imitate, incorporate and/or utilise digital media, and also display a thematic concern with the ethical implications of digital technology.
You will be responsible for identifying, cataloguing, analysing, and theorising PPFDs, co-designing qualitative empirical research methods, and undertaking data collection and analysis (including recruiting participants). You will also contribute to, present, and co-publish the project research findings to academic and public audiences. You will maintain the project website and associated social media communications. You will work closely with the Principal Investigator, the International Principal Investigator (based in Germany) and the International Postdoctoral Researcher (based in Germany).
You must have a PhD in a relevant subject area (at date of appointment) and experience of academic writing, including conference papers and peer-reviewed publications. Experience of research in English studies and of qualitative research methods and techniques and their application is essential. An ability to undertake and occasionally lead on a range of research support tasks, including literature reviews, preparation and delivery of presentations, and article writing is also essential.
The post represents an excellent opportunity for a postdoctoral researcher aiming to increase their experience in academic research and impact under the prestigious imprint of the AHRC/DFG.
We offer a diverse range of benefits and opportunities to pursue a rewarding and fulfilling career in a supportive environment.
As well as 25 days annual leave and the eight standard UK bank holidays, you also get up to six extra days each year for extended University closure around some UK public/holidays.
