Joining the Prevention Group of the Leicester Cancer Research Centre, within the Department of Genetics and Genome Biology, you will oversee technical laboratory support to various projects and research teams with the research group and project laboratories. You will also support the wider Cancer theme of the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) to help ensure successful delivery of the research aims.
Your main responsibility will be to support the research activity of multiple projects by planning and carrying out experiments, preparing materials and contributing to the development of new techniques, methods and systems.
You will work independently and under your own initiative to plan and organise lab work, usually involving several parallel projects. With your excellent communication skills, you will give advice and guidance to students to assist them with planning experiments and troubleshooting and other members of staff on the use of equipment within the laboratories. You will also assist LCRC academics in the provision of MSc laboratory practical classes.
The ideal candidate will have a technical or scientific education to BSc level or equivalent, with substantial prior work and student supervisory experience and a well-developed understanding of health and safety regulation and procedures.
Expertise in a range of molecular biology and tissue culture techniques is essential and you should also have practical experience in at least one of in vitro genetic manipulation using shRNA and CRIPSR/Cas9, immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence analysis or FACS analysis including the preparation and running of samples.
