Professor of Information Systems

Lancaster University - Management Science

The Department of Management Science within Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is seeking to strengthen our teaching and research in Information Systems (IS) with an appointment at the Professor level. The successful candidate will join a well established group teaching and researching in information systems, and will contribute to retain the leading role of this group in the UK and globally.

Candidates will have a significant publication record illustrating research leadership and an internationally excellent research profile. They will have shown an ability to attract research funding and proven capabilities to teach at undergraduate, postgraduate and executive levels, in areas that complement or overlap with the current interests and requirements of the Information Systems group.

The Department employs about 50 established academic staff, in addition to research students. The Department profile covers a wide range of research topics and methodologies/approaches and is very diverse in terms of its methods and theoretical approaches, thereby encouraging collaborations and multidisciplinary projects across fields of research and teaching such as operations management, business analytics, supply chain management, forecasting and healthcare.

Interests within the IS area cover a range of domains and industry sectors. An agreed and traditional emphasis of the Department is on intellectually rigorous-engaged scholarship with practice. Members of the IS group also collaborate with other departments within LUMS for teaching across IS topics, including our flagship MSc. in Digital Business, Innovation and Management programme, taught in partnership with the Department of Organisation, Work & Technology.

The selected candidate will have the chance to shape the research in the area of Information Systems in the Management School, with an opportunity to play a key role in the Schools’ Centre for Technological Futures. They will be expected to lead/develop initiatives for collaboration and research funding applications with faculty groups outside the department, both within the Management School and outside, in faculties such as Computer Science and Sociology, and in cross faculty institutes such as the Data Science Institute. They are expected to be active in reaching out to industry to engage in impact activities. Membership of editorial boards and as senior or associate editors in leading IS journals will be a bonus. We seek a thoughtful individual with an outstanding research and scholarly record.
