The SEDIMARE Doctoral Network consortium will provide a training-through-research program to 12 Doctoral Award/PhD Candidates across Europe and the UK in complex sediment transport processes involving sand-mud mixtures, mixed-size sands, granular-fluid mixtures; coupling between hydrodynamics (waves, storm surges, and tides), sediment transport, morphological changes; and engineering solutions to issues related to erosion/sedimentation with emphasis on sustainability and resilience. The research methods include effective process-based engineering modelling, advanced numerical simulations, and innovative experiments.

SEDIMARE University of Nottingham DC PhD Project: Morphodynamic swash zone modelling.

This project will develop a numerical model of the boundary layer in swash type flows. A review of existing boundary layer descriptions will be carried out. A new boundary layer model will be developed which will address present inadequacies in our modelling capabilities. This will be incorporated into existing software that describes swash motions. Computational performance will be quantified, the resulting combined model will be validated against suitable data-sets.

Offer Description: Applications are invited for 1 Doctoral Candidate (DC) position. The successful candidate will also be enrolled for a fee free PhD at the University of Nottingham, UK. The position includes secondment opportunities to Deltares, The Netherlands, and HR-Wallingford, UK.
