The National Epitaxy Facility (www.nationalepitaxyfacility.co.uk) is a Centre of excellence for semiconductor epitaxy and associated device fabrication and characterization in the UK. The facility is hosted by the University of Sheffield in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and University College London. The facility provides world class epitaxial materials to academic and industrial users throughout the UK. We have a significant portfolio of research in quantum materials and systems and have a vacancy for a fabrication scientist/engineer to work on quantum dot-based quantum photonic devices.
The post is funded through our membership of the National Quantum Communications Hub (https://www.quantumcommshub.net). The post holder will support the translation of semiconductor quantum dots developed in Sheffield into novel and innovative quantum device technologies through the development of new semiconductor processing techniques, new device concepts, and appropriate test and verification methodologies. Research will be conducted in close collaboration with colleagues in the Epitaxy Facility, the Department of Physics and Astronomy and colleagues in other Universities within the Quantum Communications Hub.
The post provides an exciting opportunity to lead high quality research and development in device design, fabrication and test in collaboration with leading researchers and industry. Working within a state-of-the-art semiconductor facility, the post provides an ideal opportunity to develop broad and transferable skills in device fabrication and development and would suit individuals committed to a career in academia or industry in this burgeoning field of quantum photonics.
