The role
The School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol wishes to recruit a Professor in Physical Activity & Public Health. In line with the strategic development of our research and teaching programmes we are seeking to fill this post with a high calibre individual who will contribute to a dynamic, ambitious and collegial environment that is at the forefront of intellectual developments within our interdisciplinary School. The successful candidate will be expected to evidence a strong commitment to teaching, research, and management.
The School has an exceptional reputation for teaching, research and public engagement. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) over 97% of research in the exercise and sports science unit of assessment was rated world-leading or internationally excellent. In the QS World Rankings we are consistently ranked in the top 30 worldwide and top ten in the UK. Our undergraduate programmes in criminology, social policy and childhood studies are consistently top rated in national league tables. We also deliver successful programmes (Masters in Nutrition, Physical Activity & Public Health and Masters in Public Policy), which attracts students from across the globe, and Masters in Policy Research/Social Work Research and Social Work. Our policy programmes have a strongly global, comparative and international component.

The post holder will also contribute to our range of highly rated undergraduate and postgraduate offerings including: our MSc in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Public Health; to health-related units across the School, principally on our BSc Childhood Studies; and to the development of new units and programmes.

Candidates should have a national and international reputation in research in physical activity and health; a record of international leadership in research and scholarship; an outstanding record of research and scholarship reflected in publications and research funding profile; extensive teaching experience; supervised students at both undergraduate & postgraduate level; and the ability to take on management roles within the School.
