The School of Computing & Engineering is a large, research-intensive school at the University of Huddersfield. It is building on its success in the Research Excellence Framework (REF2021) by investing in its facilities and staff across its broad range of engineering and computing disciplines. As part of this the Applied Interdisciplinary Research Group are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic individual for the role of Research Assistant – Clean Energy Technologies to work on projects related to Energy Efficiency.
The group are currently working on a variety of projects covering materials, methods and processes with a range of industrial partners. The research is based around the requirements of clean energy generation, however the theories and techniques being developed will have impact on a multitude of other applications. A flexible approach is therefore needed, as these can vary across a wide range of subject areas, from using the thermodynamic theories to develop solar powered desalination units to analysing the biogas generated from anaerobic digester plants.
The work will entail the application of a variety of sophisticated computational and experimental methods, as well as a significant amount of practical and experimental work. The post holder will help review the available literature, develop test facilities, collect and analyse data, create interim and final project reports, and generate academic outputs. The work will also involve collaborations with industrial partners, so good communication skills will be essential and previous experience of liaising with industry will be an asset. An interest in energy efficiency is essential, as is an enquiring and creative approach to challenges.
