We wish to appoint two Lecturers in Ancient History, within the School of Classics, to start in September 2023. Both are standard positions.  

The successful candidates will be scholars with a growing international research reputation in the subject, with the expertise to deliver high-quality teaching across the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in Ancient History, Ancient History & Archaeology, Classical Studies and Classics.  

We are open to appointing in any areas of Ancient History, broadly understood, with a special interest in candidates who can consolidate or extend our areas of subject expertise – from the Mycenaean period through to Late Antiquity and to include any sub-disciplinary or thematic approaches.  

The successful candidates will be expected to have a wide range of interests, to be active in research publication and/or REF Impact, and to demonstrate an interest in promoting knowledge exchange.  

A commitment to research-led teaching and the ability to communicate with undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds are essential. Familiarity with grant-seeking processes in relation to research councils and other sources is desirable.
