Subject area description
Crafts at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg involves exchange between education, research and society. The Crafts programmes at the first- and second-cycle level include specialisations in Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art and Textile Art. HDK-Valand provides Doctoral studies in the field of Crafts. It also offers free-standing courses to support life-long learning and continued professional development.
The core of the Crafts programmes at HDK-Valand support material and conceptual artistic exploration. The education requires the development of skill-based knowledge, investigates the conceptual identity of the Crafts and aims to foster debate about the meaning of material inquiries in contemporary society. Coursework prepares students for artistic careers that will contribute to the international field of craft.
The Crafts programmes have well-equipped workshops and studios in central Gothenburg. In addition, our partnerships with arts organizations and city-based archives support student learning in craft and exhibition practices.
Duties
The Senior Lecturer in Crafts is expected to lead the development and critical contextualisation of artistic and research development in the subject in close connection with colleagues in Ceramic Art, Jewellery Art and Textile Art.
We are looking for a candidate who can take a leading role in management as well as subject and programme development and has excellent organizational and administrational skills, as well as ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues.
The role involves teaching primarily at the MFA Programme in Crafts.
In this context, teaching includes supervision of MFA student projects, examinations, development of course content and administrative responsibilities that pertain to assessment and evaluation.
Part of the assignment includes time for research or artistic development work in accordance with the University of Gothenburg’s working hours agreement that facilitates collaborations between the public, research communities, and education. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a network of partnerships of interest for the faculty and the department.
