WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick, one of the world’s leading research and education groups with state-of-the-art technologies. WMG hosts one of the seven centres for High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer to join the strategically important area of Verification and Validation (https://warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/wmg/research/cav/vandv).
The physical world of mobility and infrastructure are merging with the digital world of simulation, AI, software, and data. With the emergence of evermore complex systems comes evermore complex challenges. Chief among these challenges, that of assuring safety.
The verification and validation team at WMG are undertaking a programme of research and engineering across the verification and validation spectrum. From fundamental research, to applied research, the development of policy, standards and regulation, and direct commercial research. Our programme of work is having a material impact on the creation and application of novel safety assurance methods across emerging technologies: with its foundation in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV’s) and extending across transportation domains (i.e. air, land, sea) and novel technologies (i.e. AI). We are proudly enabling a new wave of technological progress by working with partners worldwide.
The group is globally recognised, with the research and engineering team siting on global standards committees as the UK representative (i.e. ISO TC 204/WG14 and ISO TC22/ SC33/ WG9), being lead author of a proposed international standard on self-driving shuttles/ pods, and contributing to many more standards (i.e. ASAM OpenLABEL, BSI 1889 & BSI 1883). Along with having developed the world’s largest public database of test scenarios for CAV’s, Safetypool™ (https://www.safetypool.ai/), and leading on one pillar of the UK Governments pioneering CAM Test Bed programme, Midlands Future Mobility (https://www.safetypool.ai/).
This position will play a pivotal leadership role, ensuring that we do the right things, that we do them well and effectively, that we continue to deliver value to our partners (private and public), and maintain a world leading position within the wider eco-system. The challenges that the V&V team are addressing are complex and multi-disciplinary. You shall have comprehensive experience of having worked on and delivered technically complex projects.
In return we will provide you with a great range of benefits which include an attractive pension scheme, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays and Christmas closure, some fantastic savings on a wide range of products and services, and excellent learning and development opportunities.
Interview Date: TBC.
