A Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow position is available within the group of Dr Alex Saywell at the University of Nottingham to work in the field of surface confined molecular systems. The position will be hosted within the School of Physics and Astronomy Nanoscience group where you will have access to a range of experimental techniques, including low-temperature ultra-high vacuum scanning probe microscopy (SPM) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopies, and will be part of a vibrant research community. The research activities will be conducted as part of a collaborative research programme, involving researchers from the University of Oxford and colleagues from the University of Nottingham. There will also be opportunities to undertake experimental activities at the Diamond Light Source (the UK’s national synchrotron facility).
You will undertake experimental work focusing on the spatial, temporal, and energetic characterisation of on-surface synthesis process; employing low- and variable-temperature SPM approaches to elucidate the dynamics, and energetics, of molecular interactions and reactions. As part of the role, you will plan and conduct research, analyse and evaluate data, and prepare research work for publication and dissemination at national/international conferences.
As part of our commitment to improving equality, diversity and inclusion within the school, shortlisted candidates will be given the opportunity to talk to a member of staff representing women, BAME, LGBTQIA+ or disabilities communities. This will be separate to the assessment process and will play no role in the decision to appoint.
This role is available on a fixed term basis for 12 months from 1 April 2023 until 31 March 2024. Hours of work are full time (36.25 hours per week). Job share arrangements may be considered.
Applicants should submit a CV and publications list (if not included in the CV).
Informal enquiries may be sent to Dr Alex Saywell (alex.saywell@nottingham.ac.uk). Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
