The Department of Economics at Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) invites applications for a PhD Position in Economics. The position combines enrolment into the full-time PhD Program in Economics and teaching-related duties in academic programs offered by the department. You will be working alongside world leading academics in a busy, exciting and innovative department. As a PhD student in this department, you will have access to advanced research training courses offered by the Department and by the ESRC-funded North West Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (NWSSDTP). You will enjoy both close supervision by a group of well-established and highly qualified faculty members. Furthermore, you will also participate in a large number of departmental activities such as our internal/external/PhD seminar series, subject specific reading groups and departmental workshops and conferences. 

Job qualifications

Candidates should be committed to completing their PhD degree in economics, and should meet the requirements for the enrolment into the PhD program (see www.lancaster.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/postgraduate-courses/economics-phd). You should also be committed to pursuing an academic career. You should be able to pursue your own independent research programme under the supervision of a team of experienced supervisors. You should have competence to assess and potentially deliver material at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Research interests

The wide variety of research areas within our department include Behavioural and Experimental Economics; Labour, Education and Health Economics; Macroeconomics and Financial Markets; Political Economy and International Trade; Industrial Organisation; Economic Theory.

Application procedure

You should submit your application online at hr-jobs.lancs.ac.uk. The application package must contain a cover letter, CV, degree transcripts for Masters and undergraduate study, two letters of reference (at least one of which should be an academic reference), and examples of academic writing (e.g., research proposal, research report, Master thesis). Contract terms: The position has a fixed duration of 4 years, and the candidates are expected to complete their PhD by the end of year 4.
