Research Associate (Fixed Term)

University of Cambridge - MRC Biostatistics Unit

We are seeking applications for this exciting joint post between the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre (CCTC) and the MRC Biostatistics Unit (MRC-BSU). This position is part of a pan-European consortium (Cancer Core Europe) to improve the design and implementation of clinical trials. We seek a statistician interested in developing novel, more efficient clinical trial designs. Particular focus will be on the design of adaptive clinical trial arms, and clinical trials which incorporate novel biomarker endpoints (eg. liquid biopsy or imaging). The vacancy provides an exciting opportunity to make important contributions to clinical research, working with fellow statisticians and with clinical and translational researchers in Cambridge and across the Cancer Core Europe Centres (see below).

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Its focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health.

The Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre (CCTC) is located at Addenbrooke's Hospital, and accommodates around 100 research staff involved in the set-up, coordination and conduct of clinical / transitional cancer research for the Cancer Research UK Cancer Centre (https://crukcambridgecentre.org.uk/), one of only two major centres in the UK. The Centre includes over 140 scientific principal investigators as well as over 80 NHS consultants who are engaged in cancer related clinical or translational research across a number of institutes and departments.

Cancer Core Europe (https://www.cancercoreeurope.eu) is a network of seven leading cancer centres which brings together a critical mass of clinical and translational research capacity to conduct transformative cancer research:

  • Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre
  • Vall d'Hebron Institute of Oncology, Barcelona
  • Institut Gustave Roussy, Paris
  • Netherlands Cancer Institute, Amsterdam
  • Karolinska Institute, Stockholm
  • NCT-DKFZ, Heidelberg
  • Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori, Milan

Candidates should have a post-graduate qualification in statistics with previous experience in clinical trials.
