We are looking for a Lecturer or Associate Lecturer to join our Programme Team and teach across all 4 years of our Psychotherapy and Counselling degrees:
For an informal discussion about the role please, contact Dr Alister McCormick, Programme Leader on amccormick@marjon.ac.uk
Who might apply:
For a Lecturer role, the post holder will typically be a Registered or Accredited Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent protected register (e.g., National Counselling Society), and be an experienced practitioner who has remained up to date with the profession and is currently or recently practising. For an Associate Lecturer role, the post holder may be less experienced, but would be trained as a counsellor and capable of supporting the development of trainee counsellors.
What you’d be doing:
We teach through a combination of lectures, seminars, and skills work (e.g., ‘triads’). You would work as part of a team to support triads and other skills work and group work. Lecturers would also take lead lectures that introduce a topic (e.g., a mental health topic, a core counselling skill). You would also be a personal tutor to a group of students, and you might conduct research, supervise dissertation students, and lead course admissions interviews.
A 0.8 FTE member of the team would likely be on campus three days a week during the semester. On the fourth day and outside of the semester, you could work remotely.
What you’d need to enjoy:
Supporting the development of student counsellors at different stages of the journey, leading small groups, providing constructive feedback, thinking creatively, communicating with others (in person, over the phone or by email), and engaging with technology.
Where you’ll work:
Plymouth Marjon University is a small University with our students at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be based in the Plymouth Marjon University School of Sport and Health, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.
We are keen to hear from a diverse range of applicants to support our goal to realise every individual’s potential. We are a ‘Disability Confident Employer’: candidates who declare a disability and who demonstrate on their application that they meet the essential criteria will be included on the shortlist. If you are considering relocating, you can read more about Plymouth here.
