The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is a world-leading international life sciences research organization with its main laboratory situated in Heidelberg, Germany and five laboratories at other sites in Europe. In Grenoble, France, EMBL employs 90 people and has a world-wide reputation for research and service activities in structural molecular biology.

EMBL Grenoble shares the European Photon and Neutron (EPN) Campus with two other international organizations, the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) and the Institut Laue Langevin (ILL) as well as the French Institut de Biologie Structurale (IBS). EMBL Grenoble IT team provides a broad range of service from Desktop/Laptop support, Instrument control, Windows and Linux servers backend to data collection and number crunching.

The team collaborates actively with the pan European EMBL IT teams. You will participate to desktop/laptop installation, maintenance and support as well as contribute to a number of key Windows backend services (Active directory services, Central Antivirus, GLPI, WAPT, WSUS, etc.).

Your role

  • Maintenance, deployment and support of MacOS, Linux and Windows computers for users, scientists and laboratory instrument control;
  • Maintenance and support of printers, photocopiers projector and video-conference systems;
  • Asset and software license management;
  • Contribute to IT trainings (MacOS, Linux, Windows, Google suite, wiki) and lectures to users;
  • General IT support during institutional events.

The job involves to collaborate actively with both the local IT team and the IT team at EMBL headquarters in Heidelberg to pursue the evolution of IT services at the institutional level. The job requires occasional off-hour assignments, in particular during institutional events. 

You have

  • ideally, at least 2 years of work experience in a professional IT support environment;
  • a degree in computer sciences or equivalent practical experience;
  • technical expertise in managing and supporting desktop and mobile OS;
  • experience in enterprise level automated systems and software deployment;
  • hands-on experience with Windows/MacOS/Linux environments;
  • good understanding of computer networks;
  • familiarity with enterprise-level integration of desktop and mobile systems including areas such as network access, file systems and email;
  • good communication and English language skills;
  • excellent problem-solving and multitasking skills.

  • The contract duration is of3 years, renewable to a maximum of 9 years
