This exciting, full-time, permanent post is available immediately, working for Technical Services within the Department of Biosciences, Faculty of Life and Health Sciences, Streatham Campus, University of Exeter. We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication and time management skills, to deliver support to the stakeholders, as well as have effective people management skills that will empower, inspire, direct and create a cohesive technical team.
The primary responsibility of this role is to coordinate the day-to-day operational delivery of technical services to the Biological Sciences laboratories in the Geoffrey Pope building, Biocatalysis Building and the Greenhouses. You will be required to coordinate the general provision of resources such as staff rotas, space, monitor spend on budgets, organise maintenance contracts and advise on Health and Safety whilst working collaboratively with the Technical Services Manager for Teaching, the Senior Laboratory Manager for the Centre for Medical Mycology, Technical Services Manager for the Living System Institute and with the Technical Services Manager for the Hatherly Building, where the Department also has a research presence. You will be responsible for the direction and coordination of a team of technical staff working within the laboratories and will be expected to take a lead role in the enhancement and increased effectiveness and efficiency of processes and procedures.
The ideal candidate will not only have excellent relationship management skills but also have experience in providing professional technical support in a laboratory environment. You must be able to work independently, using your initiative to tackle any problems, be empowered to make decisions on the ground whilst having the confidence to work collaboratively with technical staff and academics as well as other teams across the University.
