About us
Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA) is a vibrant centre of rigorous creative practice. Structured around three discipline-based departments, Architecture, Design and Fine Art, we integrate creative practice with traditional scholarship to advance our disciplines.
MADA advocates for the essential role that creative practice plays in our collective quality of life. We propose and develop models for future communities that are culturally enriched and responsive to the great challenges of our time.
The Department of Architecture is an internationally networked community of practitioners, educators and researchers engaged in expanding architectural, urban and planning practice. Progressive, dynamic and a champion of change, we are innovative and relevant to the challenges facing contemporary cities and society. Embedded in MADA, and part of a global, research intensive University, external impact is core to our mission. Through practice-based teaching and research we collaborate across diverse disciplines to solve emerging social and environmental challenges at local, regional and global scales in partnership with government, industry, and communities. Our research and teaching is supported by an outstanding campus with workshop facilities that enable the making and testing of multi-scalar prototypes via contemporary digital and analogue fabrication.
The Opportunity
In this role you will make a significant contribution to the Department of Architecture providing educational leadership as part of the leadership team with Head of Department and Course Leaders.
With a distinguished educational, research and practice track record, you will bring strong academic experience and an international reputation and network. You will have a demonstrated capacity for academic leadership, and have worked productively in the context of current opportunities and challenges in architectural education.
In addition, you will have the capability to undertake practice-based and traditional research aligned with Monash Urban Lab including multi-scalar design investigations in partnership with community, industry and government. A capacity for transdisciplinary urban research is desirable.
You will have professional registration as an architect or urban practitioner, or equivalent, and ideally, will possess a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline area or have internationally recognised professional practice experience.
In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard shall be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or contributions to technical achievement. In addition, a position at this level will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.
This role is a full-time position; however, flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.
At Monash University, we are committed to being a Child Safe organisation. This position at the University will require the incumbent to hold a valid Working with Children Check.
Your application must address the selection criteria. Please refer to "How to apply for Monash Jobs".
