We are seeking to further expand the Institute of Financial and Actuarial Mathematics through the appointment of two Permanent academic staff at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Reader level (equivalent to assistant/associate professor in the United States). Expertise is sought in the following areas: actuarial mathematics, stochastic analysis and/or machine learning and/or statistics (with applications in finance and insurance). The posts are in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, which is part of the School of Physical Sciences at the University of Liverpool.
You should have a PhD in Mathematics/Statistics/Financial Mathematics/Actuarial Science or related subject and an excellent research or professional practice track record in the areas of Actuarial Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Statistics, Stochastic Processes, Stochastic Analysis or a related field and the ability to attract external research funding. You should have the relevant skills to teach in both small and large groups, and have experience of, or be willing to participate in, student supervision and curriculum development. As a result of the new strategic aim defined by the Institute for Financial and Actuarial Mathematics (IFAM), we highly encourage applications in any field of machine learning and data science with application to finance and/or insurance. You will play a part in the development of the department through extending existing research networks within the University, building new networks nationally and internationally.
The School of Physical Sciences is an Athena SWAN Silver Award holder and is committed to encouraging, developing and supporting women in their research and academic careers. We are working to create an inclusive environment which values a diverse workforce and we recognise that many individuals value flexibility in their work/life balance. Therefore, this post may be taken up on a Part Time (a minimum of 0.5 FTE) or Full-Time basis (including a Job Share).
We strongly encourage applications from individuals from groups underrepresented within our workforce, particularly women and people who identify as Black, Asian or from a Minority Ethnic background. There is no obligation to declare an interest in a part-time or flexible position in the application or at interview. This may be addressed after the selection process.
