The Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation (CeTPD) is an exciting new translational research centre at the School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee, set to capitalise on the University’s world-leading position in a field that is revolutionising drug discovery. Directed by Professor Alessio Ciulli, one of the pioneers in the Targeted Protein degradation (TPD) and PROTAC fields, the CeTPD will be a fast growing research centre making major research contributions to the TPD field at the same time as accelerating Pharmaceutical industry partner drug pipelines with new ground breaking therapeutics.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional candidate to lead on the Business Development function of the CeTPD and to contribute significantly to the University’s new “Research with Impact” strategy. Reporting to the Deputy Director within Research and Innovation Services (RIS), the successful candidate will form part of the CeTPD leadership team working closely with the CeTPD Director and other CeTPD Principal Investigators, as well as being a senior member of the IP and Commercialisation Team within RIS. This is a senior and high-profile role and the successful postholder will be involved in setting the future direction and vision of CeTPD along with the CeTPD Director. The role will be externally facing and require extensive networking and a willingness to travel.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead on the development and implementation of the Business Development strategy for CeTPD in line with the required outputs and targets of the 5 year Business Plan - this will involve the full spectrum of BD activities including setting up new collaborative research partnerships, licensing of technologies, and exploring company formation opportunities
  • Careful management of existing key partnerships to add value, deepen relationships 2 April 2022 and ensure partnerships deliver goals
  • Extensively develop, manage and nurture networks and relationships across the Pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries to identify and prioritise new collaboration and partnership opportunities
  • Develop, manage and nurture networks across the life sciences investment sector to stimulate and develop company formation opportunities.
  • Lead on structure and negotiation of new collaborative pharma and biotech partnerships terms
  • Create new, innovative, commercialisation and partnership initiatives and models
  • Promote and develop a culture of translation, enterprise and commercialisation across CeTPD
  • Line management responsibility as the Centre expands Essential Criteria
  • Professionally qualified with a science background to degree/advanced degree level
  • A strong, demonstrable track-record in business development and commercialisation with experience gained in either the Pharma/biotech sector or Technology Transfer sector
  • Good understanding and/or direct experience of intellectual property management and exploitation of research outputs
  • Good working knowledge of contracts and contractual terms
  • Strong negotiator
  • Existing BioPharma and/or investor networks
