Director of the Centre for Discipleship and Theology (Full-Time)

The Queen's Foundation for Ecumenical Theological Education

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £31,648 + accommodation and benefits, or £44,448 + benefits
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 2nd February 2023
Closes: 9th March 2023

The Queen’s Foundation seeks an appropriately qualified and experienced person to be its next Director of the Centre for Discipleship and Theology. The Centre is one of five centres within the Queen’s Foundation and carries particular responsibility for supporting Distance Learning students, those engaged in Church of England Reader training from partner dioceses, and students who study (either face-to-face or by DL) without being sponsored directly by churches for ordination/ministerial training. The Centre is seeking to expand its open learning work and extend its range of flexible pathways in order to entice and excite a fresh wave of students to the thrill of engaging in theological learning at all levels. The core staff team is small, though is supported by academic staff from other Centres within Queen’s, and by external tutors with particular teaching specialisms.

We are particularly looking for someone who can link their educational experience with a creative approach to connecting with churches, groups of potential students, and individual learners in a variety of contexts through a varied range of training and educational opportunities (online and face-to-face). The person we are seeking would bring pedagogical experience and wisdom allied to knowledge and hands-on abilities in technological advances in learning.

The person appointed would be responsible for:

  • Helping to shape and develop programmes of study that enhance the learning of people who want to explore further what it means to be Christian in the contemporary world.
  • Contributing to the recruitment and overseeing the admission, direction and support of independent (especially part-time) students on a variety of programmes.
  • Line-managing the E-Learning Development Tutor and helping to oversee e-learning developments across the institution.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the Queen’s Foundation.

The staff team includes ethnic and gender diversity as well as lay and ordained staff. Queen’s is committed to nurturing the vocations and gifts of Black and Asian Christians, so we welcome applicants from all ethnic backgrounds.
