Kent Law School intends this round of senior academic staff recruitment to strengthen the School’s identity as a critical, international, diverse and interdisciplinary Law School that achieves distinction in teaching, research and public service. We welcome applications from academics with a proven and sustained record of outstanding publications and evidence of successful research and other academic leadership. Successful candidates will be keen to contribute to teaching in a diverse critical law school, to supervise research students and to mentor early career colleagues.

The successful candidates will enjoy working collaboratively in a supportive and collegial work environment. The School is particularly looking to make appointments in the areas of private law (particularly contract and equity & trusts), health and medical law, intellectual property law, public law, EU law, criminal law, the law of evidence, and critical introduction to law.

As a Professor or Reader, you will:

  • Publish influential research outputs of outstanding quality, lead and secure funding for major research programmes and projects.
  • Provide academic leadership in design and delivery of critical, interdisciplinary research-led education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Offer guidance, support and mentoring to staff and PGR students.

To succeed in the role, Professor and Reader applicants will have:

  • A PhD in a relevant field (or equivalent professional qualification) and a relevant teaching qualification (PGCHE or (HEA))
  • Evidence of influential research and strong track record of world-leading publications.
  • Evidence of high-quality, research-led teaching practice, achievements in student experience and attainment, curriculum innovation and programme or module development and the development and promotion of teaching and learning.

Kent Law School is an internationalised law school, recruiting substantial proportions of both students and academic staff from outside the UK. The School achieved an outstanding result in REF2021 (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/ref-2021-law).

The University of Kent values diversity and promotes equality at all levels. We particularly invite applications from candidates from Black and minority ethnic communities, disabled and neurodiverse candidates and those with chronic illnesses, who are currently under-represented in UK higher education and among staff in KLS. As part of our commitment to EDI the University has a flexible working policy and supports staff who use the DWP’s Access to Work scheme.
