The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Project Management Lead to play an important role in the management and delivery of strategic projects and to embed high quality project management into Unit processes.
The Unit is a department within the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine. Its mission is to study the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and develop strategies for their prevention. This mission is delivered through a number of scientific programmes supported by specialist research support teams in a matrix management structure. High quality project management is therefore fundamental to the successful operation of the Unit and the realisation of new scientific opportunities.
The post-holder will work closely with Principal Investigators and Research Support team leads to provide project management support for large scale, complex or strategically important Unit projects. This will include large grant applications to UK or international funders and key infrastructure or cross-functional projects. The post-holder will also be the topic expert for the Unit on project management, advising Unit members on project management approaches and leading a change management process to embed high quality project management methods and tools into Unit processes.
The post-holder will have a strong working knowledge of project management methodologies and a high level of proficiency with project management software and tools. They will have significant experience of successfully delivering projects across multidisciplinary teams and of managing multiple complex projects in parallel. They will additionally bring prior experience of applying project management processes to lead the delivery of research grant applications and, ideally, be familiar with the grant application processes of major UK and international funders. The post-holder will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to influence, negotiate and manage change. They will have excellent collaboration and team working skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships, and will have experience of training others.
