Are you an experienced Project Manager seeking a new opportunity?

Do you wish to take a leading role in delivering exciting research projects that underpin environmental policies and commercial innovation?  If so please read on….

We are looking for an accomplished project or programme manager who can deliver complex, multi-organisation science projects.  It will involve managing the creation and running of a UK-wide biomass demonstration platform involving staff across multiple research and industry partners.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage a £5M project budget with detailed milestones and deliverables, ensuring project and benefit delivery
  • Plan and manage activities, schedules and designate resources appropriately
  • Monitor and control progress, providing timely reports
  • Manage risks and issues ensuring appropriate mitigation is in place
  • Manage procurement of goods and services including subcontracts with partner organisations. Monitor performance and financial controls
  • Co-ordinate project communication activities to build relationships with the project team, funders, partners and stakeholders

Here are some essential skills we are looking for: 

  • A degree in a science discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of programme/project management techniques
  • A track record of successful management and delivery of large, multi-organisation projects
  • Clearly understands key stakeholders, and engages with them on a regular basis to meet Project and UKCEH outcomes and objectives
  • A collaborative project manager, able to communicate well with team members and partners from multiple organisations/groups
  • Demonstrable skills in resource, financial and risk management
  • Sets and articulates clear goals and performance standards, and is proactive in managing any difficulties
  • Manages sub contracts, commercial agreements and customer relations

We would be delighted if you also had the following skills/experience: 

  • Experience of managing government department funded projects
  • Formal project management qualifications e.g. PRINCE2
  • Tender writing 
  • Knowledge of external quality standards (e.g. ISO9001)
