The Department of Civil & Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield invites applications from outstanding and ambitious candidates for a position in Building Physics at lecturer level.

We seek an individual who can relate their research to impact within one of the following challenges: technologies for low carbon-built environments, façade technologies or engineering healthy low energy indoor environments at the urban scale.

More information on the current Resources, Infrastructure systems and Built Environment group research activities and facilities can be found on our webpage. You will be expected to work alongside other disciplines, engaging in wider university groups such as the Energy Institute and/or Sheffield Air.

The Department has a long track record of field work related to building performance and urban air quality and energy flows and as such facilities to support this work is available (see the Urban Flows Observatory for some examples).

You should have a developing track record of publication in high quality journal papers. You should also demonstrate the potential to generate research funding and to deliver impact from your research. You should also have a real passion to deliver high quality teaching at all levels and an openness to new ways of delivery and assessment. You will be educated to degree level in Architectural Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering or a related discipline, or have equivalent experience together with a PhD in a relevant subject area, or have equivalent experience.

The Department’s teaching is underpinned by international leading research, with the Engineering Faculty ranked 8th for the quality of our research in REF 2021 and offers excellent laboratories and facilities for students.  All undergraduate and postgraduate courses are accredited.

Over the last five years research activity in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering has continued to expand, which has enabled high employability for students through research-led teaching. As well as having a strong reputation in fundamental research, the Department has growing expertise in the areas of resilient infrastructure, sustainability and carbon-neutral construction, energy generation and storage, digital technologies, characterisation of new materials, and management of hazards and risk.
