Applications are invited for the appointment as Tenure-Track Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in the Department of Law (Ref.: 519249), to commence on August 1, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of the second three-year fixed-term contract. Suitably qualified applicants may be considered for direct tenure.
The Faculty of Law is the longest established law school in Hong Kong. It plays a leading role in legal education in Hong Kong and Asia, through its various undergraduate, research postgraduate, and taught postgraduate programmes covering a wide range of legal subject areas. It is the largest and oldest law teaching institution in Hong Kong, currently consisting of over 80 teaching members drawn from more than 17 jurisdictions worldwide.
The Faculty welcomes applications from outstanding candidates in all areas of legal scholarship, and particularly those who specialize in the following areas: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Corporate and Financial Law, Intellectual Property Law, Law and Technology, and in the core common law disciplines (including but not limited to contract, tort, criminal, property law, public law).
Applicants should normally have a first degree in Law (eg LLB, BA(Jurisprudence) and JD), and an additional postgraduate degree in Law (eg LLM, PhD, D Phil and SJD). Those who do not have an additional postgraduate degree in Law are also encouraged to apply if there is evidence of a strong publication record and relevant experience in teaching, legal practice or the judiciary, or if they possess a postgraduate degree in a non-law discipline. Applicants for the Professorship should be outstanding academics with an international reputation as leaders in their field. Applicants for Associate Professorship should be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research. Applicants for Assistant Professorship should be academically strong and demonstrate potential for excellence as teachers and researchers.
The appointee will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Faculty’s research profile, by producing high-quality research and actively participating in research communities. He or she will also be expected to contribute to the development and delivery of teaching on the Faculty’s undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes (including the Juris Doctor degree programme). The appointee will be responsible for the research, teaching and development of courses in the areas of law mentioned above.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
