About us

The UCL Institute for Global Health (IGH) is at the heart of UCL’s Grand Challenge of Global Health, the Institutes vision is for a world where international policy on global health is informed by world class research. IGH aims to support the development of robust solutions to aspects of the world’s major global health challenges through scholarly outputs, education, public engagement, translational research and ultimately by influencing public policy and professional practice. The aim of this research is to identify a new approach to prevent HIV among young African women, a group disproportionally affected by HIV/AIDS globally. The POWER study, Protecting women from economic shocks to fight HIV in Africa, is based on the assumption that financial needs, alongside biological susceptibility, are the main cause of HIV acquisition among young women in Africa. POWER is the first randomised controlled trial that aims to test the effectiveness and value for money of the prevention of economic shocks as a way to prevent risky sexual practices of young women in Africa

About the role

The post include conducting econometric analysis using cross sectional and longitudinal data sets including causal mediation analysis. Perform cost-effectiveness analysis using data from mathematical modelling and participating in dissemination and advocacy activities and write-up results. PhD degree awarded or submitted or equivalent experience in sexual health, digital health and/or global health and development or similar for application to UCL Grade 7 A MSc degree in Economics, preferably obtained with distinction Experience in working on global health and HIV Excellent quantitative analysis skills. This role is an open-ended contract with a funding end date of March 2026. • Research Fellows - 'Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (£34,502 to £36,348 per annum) pro rata per annum inclusive of London Allowance. With payment at Grade 7 (38,308 to 46,155) pro rata per annum inclusive of London Allowance being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.'

About you

The Postholder will provide research assistance to the principal investigator, which includes the analysis of the POWER data and drafting of research papers. You are expecting to have excellent statistical skills and experience in writing research papers. The appointee will be required to conduct analysis of quantitative data.
