Primary role purpose

The principal provides leadership to ABA’s Academic staff and students and has overall responsibility for the academic direction of the organisation.

ABA’s principal will oversee the development of curriculum and put in place the essential academic policies that govern how ABA is run. The principal will also act in an outward facing capacity, representing the organisation in engagements with students’, forums and other such events of significance.

The principal will manage ABA in accordance with academic policies agreed by the Board of Governance including the proper use of Academy funds.

Main Duties

  • Provide academic leadership within and on behalf of ABA
  • Provide strategic direction that aligns with organisational needs and growth
  • Principal lead on designing and maintaining the Academy Master Plan
  • Principal lead on designing, upgrading and maintaining all Academic policies
  • Enhance student inclusion in all aspects of the organisation
  • Stimulate academic attainment and create a culture whereby students can develop essential skills
  • Encourage participation and involvement from all students
  • Work closely with their Student Guild President and other student representatives
  • Manage Academic staff effectively by:
    • Supporting and developing academic staff as appropriate
    • Monitoring academic staff work and using appropriate procedures in matters relating to their wellbeing
  • Ensure the organisation complies with all of its academic policies
  • Oversee the appropriate use of the organisations social, academic and commercial spaces
  • Provide, as necessary, materials for Academy handbooks and the website
  • Represent the organisation at Board of Governance, Executive Board and other committees and working groups
  • Work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team to ensure they are updated on all matters of significance at all times to ensure good institutional governance of the organisation
  • Undertake training and other professional development as required

Other duties

Safeguarding

  • Complete all safeguarding training as required
  • Provide and assure a safe environment for learners at all times
  • Follow procedures and practices which minimise risks to all learners
  • Recognise and react responsibly to apparent and potential instances of abuse or neglect.
  • Report cases (or suspected cases) of abuse or potential for harm

Human Resources

  • Provide mentoring and training to relevant academic staff members as required.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members by sharing information concerning needs of the organisation and required participation via internal communication channels.
  • Undergo performance appraisals.

Other Relevant Duties

  • Other related duties may be required from time to time.

The role of Principal is a full-time on campus position and is one of the key roles within ABA. The appointee will be expected to give the role their full professional attention and act with discretion and integrity and in the best interests of the organisation at all times.
