You will work with the collective group of researchers and postdoctoral fellows in the Digital Media and Society (DMS) Institute to investigate the role of digital media products and services in contemporary society and its impact on individuals, communities and organisations. Specifically, the role involves assisting with the development of new digital tools and visualisation techniques that draw on Explainable AI approaches to analyse the content and interactions in digital media at scale.
The approach involves the integration of multimodal communication (linguistic, visual, and audio/visual resources), social theory and computer science. The aim is to understand and address the role of digital media on society, including digital inequalities, digital divides, and variations in data and digital literacies arising from on people’s in/ability to harness the potential of digital technologies. In addition, the position involves setting up and maintaining the technical infrastructure in the DMS Institute for research projects, and assisting with grant applications, seminars and events, and training and development programmes for PhD students and Early Career Researchers.
We are looking to appoint the most appropriate candidate within the Grade 6/7 range, according to experience, ability and interview performance. For appointment at Grade 6, you should have a degree in a relevant subject. For appointment at Grade 7 you should have a PhD in a relevant subject. The position is fixed term for three years, with possible extension. You will require a strong technical background in data science and visualisation, preferably with some experience in virtual reality applications.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 37 from the date of their award.
