Background

The postholder will be employed as the main researcher of a project on millimetre-wave antenna integration using new materials and advanced manufacturing techniques. The primary aim of the project is to research and develop new antennas array architecture and their integration technology for millimetre-wave (mm-wave) communications. The work will involve critical literature survey, theoretical analysis, computer aided design, device prototyping and verification. The postholder will be expected to achieve research objectives and deliver in a timely manner. He/she will also contribute to disseminate the research outputs in the form of technical reports, presentations, or research papers as appropriate

  • Contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar.

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Develop technical proposals and deliver research objectives for the specified research project.
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines.
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding.
  • Analyse and interpret data.
  • Disseminate research findings in publications, seminars, conferences, and technical reports etc
  • Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques, and methods
  • Undertake management/administration arising from the research project

Person Specification

  • Extensive experience with millimetre-wave antenna designs and demonstrable track record in high-quality research publications (or relevant industrial experience)
  • Good knowledge of packaging technique in relation to millimetre-wave antennas
  • Good knowledge of radio wave propagation and RF front-end systems
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively
  • Fluency in relevant antenna models, techniques and methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • First degree in area of engineering or related science, and a higher degree relevant to antenna/microwave engineering or equivalent qualifications
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Fluency in relevant models, techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
