Background

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Social Sciences is a vibrant, transdisciplinary faculty for teaching, research and innovation. The faculty comprises four schools including Engineering, Technology and Design, Christ Church Business School, Psychology and Life Sciences (including Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology) and Law, Policing and Social Sciences. The faculty portfolio has a substantial provision of courses across our three sites (Canterbury, Turnbridge Wells and Medway) and via our UK and TNE partners.  The faculty embraces a pedagogic approach that focuses on a holistic student experience and ensures widening participation.  As such, the faculty has an emphasis on delivering a transdisciplinary curriculum that integrates active learning, project-based learning and industry informed education, integrating quality and standards, learning and teaching, employability skills and the student voice. The Role

This role is a unique opportunity to help frame the way in which learning, teaching, assessment and research in Higher Education (HE) can be effectively balanced and brought together both institutionally and nationally.  It is essential the post holder is able to develop a high degree of credibility amongst colleagues to support the transdisciplinary nature of the faculty portfolio and lead the LTE strategic vision, including developing innovations; building professional connections; working collegially with colleagues within the faculty and the central university (e.g. Partnerships (UK and TNE), Apprenticeships, Graduate College) and influencing positive change.  The post holder will be expected to assist colleagues in raising their profiles in the scholarship of learning and teaching, in tandem with retaining their own subject-specific teaching and research activities.   

The post-holder will lead on faculty-based LTE initiatives which contribute to performance metrics (NSS, PTES, TEF, OfS) and ensure responsivity to CCCU’s Vision 2030, PSRB requirements, the Teaching Excellence Framework and LTE related Quality, Assurance Agency and Office for Students standards.  The post-holder will also be responsible for reporting on developments and risks at relevant faculty and university committees via oral or written reports. As such, the post-holder needs to be an excellent communicator, reflective thinker and adaptable individual to lead the faculty LTE strategy via various modalities.  The post-holder will also work collaboratively with the university Learning and Teaching Enhancement unit to ensure high standards of learning and teaching are being delivered, monitored and enhanced. The Person

Essential that the applicant has an understanding of the Teaching Excellence Framework and other policy initiatives related to Learning and Teaching in HE with evidence of engagement in Learning and Teaching quality assurance/enhancement within HE.  Has a PhD or evidence of advanced scholarship in learning and teaching r relevant processional qualifications is a Senior Fellow HEA or Principal Fellow HEA (or working towards this).
