The School
The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences was created in August 2017 bringing together sport and exercise sciences, physiotherapy, sports therapy and related activity. This presents exciting opportunities for new interdisciplinary collaborations and partnership working with external agencies including a range of health practitioners.
The University of Essex has expanded its facilities for sports performance, research and education with the opening of a new facility in January 2018.
Opportunities also exist to build on our existing collaborations with the wider University community. These include: the School of Life Sciences; Institute for Social and Economic Research; the Centre for Brain Science; School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, School of Health and Social Care; and the Institute for Analytics and Data Science
Duties of the Role
You will contribute to the research environment in research groups. These groups have international expertise in green exercise, elite sport, paediatric exercise science, cardiovascular health and rehabilitation. You will also carry out such teaching and administration duties as requested.
Duties will include engaging effectively in substantive teaching and learning support roles in the School, supervising student projects, fieldwork and placements, developing a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and deliver engaging practical coaching sessions and support teaching around sports coaching literature.
A full list of duties and responsibilities can be found within the job pack attached.
Qualifications and Skills required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant doctoral level research degree or be close to completion and will have Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy, or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher level if appropriate.
Experience of designing and planning learning activities, developing effective learning environments and proven experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in Higher Education in imaginative, engaging and innovative ways are essential for this post.
You will also have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.
We particularly welcome applications from those who identify as female or non-binary and those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences.
