About us
UCL Department of Chemical Engineering is one of the top research and teaching departments in the UK and has world-class standing. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and has an extensive research portfolio across a wealth of areas, and from molecular scale to complex systems.This post sits within the Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL) in the Marshgate Building at UCL East, with 1500 m2 of collaborative research laboratories. The MFL is a cross-faculty hub, bringing together researchers from UCL departments of Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and from Chemistry, with the Department of Chemical Engineering as the lead partner for this post.

About the role
The post-holder will assist with overseeing the smooth day to day running of the MFL laboratories, and in particular work with a heavy reliance on the use of chemicals and solvents, to meet the research and teaching needs specified by MFL academic staff and line manager. This will include tasks such as preparing solutions for research labs, purchasing chemicals, consumables etc. The post-holder will also assist and train researchers and postgraduate students in the use of equipment and instruments, provide guidance on experimental procedures and instruct researchers on good practice regarding safety and operation of experimental equipment and chemicals use.
The main purpose of the job is to provide technical support to researchers, academic staff, students and others within the Manufacturing Futures Lab (MFL), in order to help the MFL achieve its strategic research and teaching objectives. The post-holder will be expected to work and/or interact with other technical staff involved in supporting MFL research and teaching, and to assist in the maintenance and management of equipment, instruments and laboratory facilities.
About you
The successful candidate should ideally have a first degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or a related field and have experience of working in chemical engineering, chemistry or related laboratories. The candidate must have technical experience in design, operation and repair of a wide range of laboratory equipment and instruments, experience with vacuum technology and working with compressed gases, experience of working safely with hazardous chemicals and experience of fault finding, repair and maintenance of a range of laboratory equipment.
