The University of Music Lübeck is seeking a

President (M/F/D)

The internationally renowned University of Music Lübeck (Musikhochschule Lübeck, MHL) is a higher education institution of the state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where around 450 young musicians study in the fields of instrumental music, singing, church music, music theory and composition in artistic, pedagogical and scientific subjects. In an inspiring environment and family atmosphere, the MHL enables the musical and personal development of its students and promotes their individual, varied, often unconventional artistic and creative development. With the Centre for Teacher Training (ZfL), the MHL is exclusively responsible for music teacher training in upper secondary education in Schleswig-Holstein. Through its institutes and co-operations, it also shapes the state's community education, support for gifted young people, as well as artistic and academic further education. As the only university of music in Schleswig-Holstein, the MHL is an important part of musical life in the Hanseatic City of Lübeck and beyond. It is the largest concert organiser in the state.

The President is elected by the Senate of the University of Music Lübeck for a term of six years. Re-election is possible. The President chairs the currently four-member Presidium, which manages the university. He/she holds this office on a full-time basis. The further duties, powers and the legal status of the office as well as the election requirements and procedure are regulated in the Schleswig-Holstein Higher Education Act.

For this position, the MHL is ideally looking for a personality with a background in the Arts, Musicology or Music Education, who will further strengthen the university's profile, visibility, network and international competitiveness with vision, creativity, strategic foresight and communication skills. We are looking for an individual with a high level of organisational competence, negotiating skills, persuasiveness and assertiveness. You should demonstrate an integrative and collegial leadership style, treat the various stakeholders of the university and their backgrounds with respect and sensitivity and promote their potential. You should have experience in representing institutions externally and in engaging in regional, national and international networks. Expertise and contacts for the successful acquisition of external funding are an advantage. Candidates must speak German at a professional level. It is expected that the president will take residence in the Lübeck region.

The office is assigned to grade W3 with an additional function allowance.
