About the Research Centre and College

The role will be mainly based within the Centre for Inflammation Research and Translational Medicine (CIRTM) in the College of Health, Medicine and Health Sciences at Brunel University London. The CIRTM was established in 2019 to bring together internationally outstanding basic and clinical researchers tackling today’s global health challenges. The centre provides an inclusive and supportive environment for multidisciplinary research. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art technologies and expertise, alongside a stimulating atmosphere provided by diverse research groups across all areas of biomedicine.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding, highly motivated, and enthusiastic candidate (either a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) or Research Assistant) with an excellent knowledge of the immune system and vascular biology to join the laboratory (lab) of Professor Felicity Gavins. The Gavins lab has a very interactive and collaborative program as can be seen by our latest publications. For more information, please visit our website for more details: www.Gavins-lab.com. This Royal Society and Wolfson Foundation affiliated position aims to investigate leukocyte (especially neutrophil) involvement in inflammation-related pathologies (e.g. cardiovascular disease, stroke, immunnothrombosis) and develop and test immunotherapies to stop disease progression and promote inflammation resolution. The post is a full-time (35 hours per week) and fixed term appointment for 12 months (with possibility of renewal).

About You

We are looking for a candidate with knowledge and technical expertise in in vivo models of inflammation (e.g. stroke, ischaemia reperfusion injury),cellular techniques (immune cell isolation, cell culture),flow cytometry, immune cell assays and methodologies (e.g. microfluidics),coupled with relevant analytical methods. An active Home Office personal licence (PIL) would be desirable, and programming skills (e.g. R,Python) would be useful. The successful candidate requires a PhD degree in a biological or medical, discipline, with a good track record in publishing their work in leading journals using some of the methods and skills listed above. Good organisation, record keeping, and communication skills are critical, and the ability to work in a team is essential.
