We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to a NERC-funded project Valuing the mental health and well-being benefits of nature engagement through measures of soundscape complexity, working with colleagues at University of East Anglia and University of Surrey. The position is based in Glasgow, under the supervision of Professor Nick Hanley.
Our project aims to quantify the acoustic properties of ecosystems across the UK, and then undertake experimental and survey work to evaluate the contribution of bird song to different indicators of well-being. The post involves analysis and manipulation of spatial data, econometric analysis and co-working with ecologists and psychologists, along with our advisory group of stakeholders. Experience with stated preference methods would be an advantage for applicants, but is not essential.
The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
Candidates should be qualified to Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 [PhD] in a relevant field, such as economics, ecology, environmental science or statistics; or alternatively possess the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience, with experience of personal development in a similar or related role[s]
This post is full time and has funding for up to 24 months.
Please contact Professor Nick Hanley (Nicholas.Hanley@glasgow.ac.uk) for further information on this project and position.
A starting date of 1st August 2023 is envisaged.
