Research Fellow in Mathematical or Statistical Modelling (107225-0323)

£33,348 - £43,155 per annum

Fixed-term contract until 30 November 2023, 1.0 FTE.

The University of Warwick seeks a suitably qualified mathematical or statistical modeller for a new position in the School of Life Sciences.

The post is part of a large European Commission funded project and will explore the potential introduction and spread of a major quarantine disease of citrus. Increases in global trade and travel have led to a vast increase in invasive plant disease epidemics. These epidemics are a serious and increasing problem in agriculture with important consequences for food supply and security. The postholder will analyse trade and commercial planting data to identify areas at high risk of entry of the disease, known as citrus greening, into the EU. This data will be linked with models to predict areas of onward spread from entry points, which will be used to inform surveillance strategies for member states.

Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD in applied mathematics, statistics, physics, epidemiology, theoretical ecology or related subjects.

The postholder will benefit from a strong research environment within the School of Life Sciences at Warwick, with world leading expertise in epidemiological modelling and plant sciences.

The post is available to start as soon as possible and will end on 30 November 2023. It will be based at the University of Warwick Wellesbourne campus and hybrid working can be discussed.
