The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS) home of the 5G/6G Innovation Centre is looking to recruit a 6G Fellow in Advanced Wireless Technology for Distributed Data Processing. The post is available at an RA1 or RA2 level.

The successful candidate will be undertaking research on advanced wireless physical layer and data link layer protocols for support of distributed data processing and fusion for machine learning. This includes, but is not limited to: analogue modulation, NOMA, channel coding, random access, radio resource optimisation, federated/decentralised federated learning, semantic communication and sensing.

The research is carried out using a combination of computer simulations, machine learning algorithm design and mathematical analysis.

ICS is the largest academic research institute in Europe specialising in all aspects of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). It is home to over 200 researchers with expertise in all communication and broadcasting systems and has developed the best in class large scale testbeds for research and innovation and enjoys the state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.

Established in 2012, 5GIC is the world’s first dedicated centre in researching end-to-end aspects of 5G and works closely with national and international leading academic institutes and key industrial partners. In November 2020, 6GIC was officially launched with parallel research undertaken in both 5G+ and 6G for 2030+.

Communication and signal processing theory, radio resource allocation and optimisation, computer simulations and machine learning programming are key skills needed and a PhD with good quality publications in the field are important to have. 

The candidates will need to be able to work within a team of researchers.

Please note, it is University Policy to offer a starting salary equivalent to Level 3.6 (£33,314) to successful applicants who have been awarded, but are yet to receive, their PhD certificate.  Once the original PhD certificate has been submitted to the local HR Department, the salary will be increased to Level 4.1 (£34,308).
