As an integral member of the dynamic and expanding School of Sport and Exercise Science, the Lecturer in Physical Education will work within a team delivering high quality teaching and will also support staff and students engaged in teaching & learning, research and scholarly activity and where appropriate, consultancy. This post will strengthen the team of staff contributing to the study of Physical Education, it involves leading and teaching primarily in the areas of Physical Education from a theoretical and practical perspective, and may involve some cross programme/course delivery (sports coaching, sport science). The post requires the candidate to have expertise of teaching a range of practical and theoretical areas in Physical Education, and also experience of teaching National Curriculum Physical Education (UK) at secondary and/or primary school level.
In the School of Sport and Exercise Science our vision is to use sport as an engine for opportunity - supporting positive social transformation. We have an excellent international reputation in the field of inclusive sport and adapted Physical Education, pioneering new ways to open up the joy of active participation in sport to hitherto marginalised and under-represented groups. We also maintain a strong focus on employability in our teaching. Worcester graduates are skilled, experienced and enthusiastic, and we know that they go on to make a significant impact as the sports practitioners of the future.
Our commitment to work that delivers real social benefit is facilitated through high quality teaching, world leading research, and ground-breaking facilities. For example, the University of Worcester Arena is the first sports facility in the UK to be designed with the needs of the wheelchair athlete in mind. The arena also hosts a wide range of international sports events and is the home for the region’s professional Netball and Basketball franchises. We have also developed a range of productive partnerships, both at home and overseas; collaborations that have helped cement Worcester’s place on the world stage.
The University of Worcester is a university that is really on the move. We have been nominated for the Times Higher Education (THE) awards in 5 categories including University of the Year twice and we won the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Local Community’. We have also been named ‘Sustainability Institution of the Year’ in the Green Gown Awards. Worcester City is a beautiful, historic city on the River Severn and has been voted one of the happiest places in the UK to live.
