The Operations and Infrastructure Committee is a key governance mechanism for the College’s transformational change portfolio. The activities within the portfolio support the delivery of programmes and projects that will help the College deliver a world leading digital and physical infrastructure and operational services to colleagues, students and other stakeholders. The role of the Change and Operational Improvement team is to facilitate change and champion a culture of continuous improvement across the College.

The Director of Strategic Programmes & Change will provide crucial leadership in for a programme of projects to support the non-academic elements of Imperial College’s new strategy.

You will develop the portfolio of transformation change projects (physical, digital and professional service improvement) across Imperial into an integrated change programme structure addressing all aspects required for successful delivery.

To achieve this, you must build strong and credible relationships with academic and professional services staff across the organisation so you can effectively deliver change initiatives.

At the same time, you will shape and lead the Change and Operational Improvement Team to deliver excellent support to change initiatives ensuring the achievement of strategic objectives.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Build and deliver the integrated change programme to support the non-academic elements of the College’s strategy.
  • Define, tailor, and implement project, operational improvement and change management methods and tools, across the lifecycle, of the change programmes
  • Support the reporting of meaningful service performance insights through KPIs and other agreed benchmarking initiatives.
  • Ensure benefits from the projects deliver agreed outcomes.
  • Working with project managers and sponsors identify, manage and resolve risks and issues as they arise ensuring appropriate controls are in place for the effective mitigation and management of risks and issues.
  • Provide leadership and motivation to the Change and Operational Improvement Team members.

Essential requirements

  • Proven track record of achievement in the successful delivery of large, complex programmes on time and within budget including demonstrable programme management, change, transition, and transformation experience in a sophisticated service environment
  • Considerable experience of working in complex multi-million-pound programme teams
  • Proven ability to develop programme of change within complex environment e.g. federated organisational model or shared services
  • Political awareness and sensitivity within the context of large complex organisations
  • Ability to successfully engage with partners to gain their confidence and trust.
  • Recognised Project, Programme or Change Management qualification.
