About Us
Xplore! Science Discovery Centre is a unique visitor attraction and educational charity in the heart of Wrexham town centre. It is the place where science comes alive and there is nothing quite like it in the region. The team at Xplore! are passionate, committed, and welcoming to all. Xplore! is a flexible employer able to facilitate a wide range of personal circumstances allowing a wider range of people to be involved in the important job of inspiring future scientists.
About the role
Science Communicators are the heart of everything we do at Xplore!. It’s a role where no two days are ever the same. You could be with families within our centre during school holidays, going out to schools with our educational activities in term-time and occasionally delivering an after-school club or evening event. As a Science Communicator you will be inspiring and will foster a love of science in all.
Xplore! is currently looking for week-day Science Communicators who can deliver sessions out in schools across north Wales and northwest England. Although it is a flexible role, we are particularly keen to hear from those who can offer 3-5 days availability per week and hold a current driving licence to drive our company vans to events and workshops held for school learners.
About you
As a Science Communicator you will have a keen interest in science and be passionate about communicating with people about anything and everything. You love engaging, talking and presenting to a wide range of audiences. We believe that confidence and subject knowledge can be built and learnt over time but showing initiative and wanting to give something a go will be second nature to you. You are an excellent team player while also having the ability to be a self-directed worker. Whilst having a background in science is useful, it certainly isn’t a deal-breaker and a drive to learn is just as important. The ability to speak Welsh or another locally spoken language is desirable for this role. Representation is incredibly important for sparking a passion for science, with that in mind Xplore! celebrates diversity and welcomes applications from all backgrounds.
